The three terms, side by side
- NIF — your company's tax number (the N98 type for foreign businesses)
- CIF — the old name for that same company NIF, still heard in conversation
- NIE — a personal foreigner number for an individual director or representative
Why getting it straight matters
When a bank, a notary or a form asks for your "CIF", they mean the company NIF. A director's NIE is something separate and only crops up for certain roles. Sorting out which numbers you actually need from the start saves a lot of bounced paperwork.
In Spain
From Barcelona to Murcia, newcomers rely on us for the nif vs cif vs nie in Spain. We prepare every document to the Agencia Tributaria (Spanish Tax Agency) standard so nothing gets sent back.
